LAST WEEK
The second-ranked Bears opened the conference slate with a bang, re-writing the program record books again in a 197.875-196.050 victory at Washington. Matching a season-high team score and the seventh-highest score in program history, Cal's Mya Lauzon tied teammate eMjae Frazier's program mark in the all-around with a 39.775 by winning or tying for first in every event against the Huskies, just a week after Frazier broke her own program-best.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
The Beavers (6-1, 0-0 Pac-12) have won five straight and are coming off of a dominating 197.575-192.950 victory over Brown last week in Corvallis. Oregon State's season-high score helped the team move up five spots in the Road to Nationals rankings and freshman Sophia Esposito posted season highs in all three events she competed in.
LAUZON EARNS PAC-12 GYMNAST OF THE WEEK HONORS
Mya Lauzon was named Pac-12 Women's Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, the second straight week a Golden Bear has earned the recognition from the conference. Helping the Bears to their second straight season-high score of 197.875, Lauzon won or tied for first in every event at Washington.
She scored a 9.9 in all four disciplines and her all-around score of 39.775 tied the program record teammate eMjae Frazier set for the second time the week before. Lauzon is tied for first nationally in the all-around in this week's Road to Nationals rankings.
50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The Bears are set to celebrate 50 years of women's gymnastics at Cal on Saturday in the Pac-12 home opener against the Beavers, with alumnae set to be on hand and recognized during the meet.
