LAST WEEK
The Bears had a memorable performance in their home opener against Oregon State, recording their second-best balance beam performance in program history (49.675) on their way to a 197.950-196.775 victory over the No. 16 Beavers. Cal also tied for its third-best floor exercise performance ever (49.600) and its all-around team score was the sixth-best mark at Cal. Junior Mya Lauzon and sophomore eMjae Frazier continued their hot starts to the season, tying for the all-around title at 39.700.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
The two-time defending NCAA champion Sooners were ranked No. 1 in the preseason and haven't flinched, compiling a 10-0 record against top-flight competition. Oklahoma is ranked No. 1 as a team on bars, beam and floor while coming in at No. 2 on vault. The Sun Devils are coming off their highest team score of the season during a loss at No. 5 Utah last week.
LAUZON REPEATS AS GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
Mya Lauzon was named Pac-12 Women's Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, giving her the recognition for the second week in a row. It also marked the third week in succession a Golden Bear has earned the honor as eMjae Frazier took home the accolade on Jan. 16.
Lauzon tied Frazier for the all-around title during Cal's 197.950-196.775 victory over No. 16 Oregon State with a score of 39.700. She won three individual events, earning a 10 from one judge on both the balance beam and floor exercise to score 9.975 on each. It marked the second time this season that Lauzon has received a 10 from one judge in two different events during the same meet.
Lauzon became the first Golden Bear to earn back-to-back Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honors since Kyana George in 2020. She is ranked No. 1 nationally in both the floor exercise and vault, No. 2 in all-around and No. 3 on beam.
50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Last season marked the 50th year of California women's gymnastics, and the Bears honored the occasion last weekend with a memorable gala the evening before their meet against Oregon State. Alumni across different decades attended the event at the University Club at California Memorial Stadium, and they were also honored during the meet against the Beavers.
CRANDALL-HOWELL REACHES CENTURY MARK
Cal co-head coach Liz Crandall Howell notched her 100th career victory with the Bears' win over Oregon State last week. Crandall-Howell has an overall record of 100-39-2 since joining Justin Howell as co-head coach in 2018. Crandall-Howell and Howell were named the WCGA Co-Head Coaches of the Year last season.
CAL PICKED THIRD IN PAC-12 PRESEASON POLL
Cal was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll for the seventh consecutive year. The top half of this year's poll shook out to be nearly identical to last season's, as Utah claimed the top spot with 46 points and five first-place votes and UCLA placed second with 43 points and the three remaining first-place votes. The Golden Bears followed in third with 43 points and Oregon State placed fourth with 30 points. All four programs tied for the Pac-12 regular-season title in 2023. Arizona State (22), Stanford (19), Washington (14) and Arizona (10) rounded out the rest of the poll.
FRAZIER, LAUZON NAMED TO WATCH LIST

Frazier burst onto the scene in her freshman year, helping the Golden Bears to a historic year that included the program's first regional final title and a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She earned NCAA All-American Second-Team honors in the all-around, vault and floor and broke the program mark for the all-around twice last season. Frazier also became the first Bear to earn a 10 on the floor exercise and was named a WCGA First-Team All-American on the event as well.
