MANAHAWKIN, NJ – Two members of the California field hockey team are among the 260 student-athletes who earned recognition as 2023 NHFCA Scholars of Distinction, as announced by the NFHCA on Tuesday. The Golden Bears receiving honors were freshman Isabelle Panikowski and Holly Pears.

The Scholars of Distinction Program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2023-24 academic year.

It is the first time on the list for both Panikowski and Pears. It marks the second consecutive year that Cal has placed two athletes on the list. Last year, Cato Knipping earned it a fourth time and Sara Stone was awarded it a third time. Last week, Cal had 12 athletes earn NFHCA Academic Squad honors.
