Joe Styger was a 1-meter champion in 1976 and 1977 and a 3-meter champion in 1976. Jay Rodriego was Cal's first individual diving champion according to Pac-12 records, having won the 3-meter championship in 1964.
WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS
Cal's talented group of young divers has already earned some individual accolades. Vavitsas was named the Pac-12 Diver of the Week on Feb. 6 after placing second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against USC. His 1-meter score of 321.80 was a season-best mark and fifth-best score in the 1-meter dive in program history. The Toronto native later scored 317.40 on the 3-meter dive. Thai was named Pac-12 Diver of the Week on Jan. 23 following an impressive week in Cal's meets against Arizona and No. 1 Arizona State. In the showdown against the Sun Devils, Thai won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, helping secure crucial points for Cal's tie against the top-ranked team in the nation.
