BERKELEY - Fresh off securing the first outright conference championship in program history, the No. 3 California women's gymnastics team closes out the 2024 regular season this weekend with a pair of tri-meets at Haas Pavilion. The Golden Bears welcome Northern California foes San Jose State and UC Davis to Berkeley on Friday evening before hosting Senior Day against No. 25 Stanford and Sac State on Sunday afternoon.
HISTORY MADE
The Bears captured the first outright conference championship in program history Sunday with its victory at No. 22 Stanford. Cal had shared the Pac-12 title in each of the two previous seasons, but this year marks the first time the program has stood alone at the top of the conference. The Bears finished the Pac-12 season with a perfect 7-0 record.
A MEMORABLE TRIUMPH
Not only did the Bears clinch the outright Pac-12 crown Sunday, the Bears did so with a flourish, posting the highest single-meet team score in program history. Cal's score of 198.50 bested its previous high of 198.400 set earlier this season during a victory at UCLA. Sophomore eMjae Frazier also tied her program record for highest individual all-around score with a 39.82.
FRAZIER SETS BENCHMARK WITH WEEKLY HONOR
Sophomore eMjae Frazier became the first Cal women's gymnast ever to be named Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week four times during a single season when she took home the award Tuesday for the third week in a row - which is also a program record. Frazier won the all-around and uneven bars titles against Stanford and also tied for the victory on vault and floor exercise. She's won 20 individual event titles this season, including three straight weeks as the all-around winner. Frazier is currently ranked as the No. 2 all-around gymnast in the nation.
BEARS TO HONOR SENIORS ON SUNDAY
The Bears will honor their three senior gymnasts and student assistant Kennedy Quay after Sunday's meet, which will be the final regular-season home appearances of their careers. Gymnast Andi Li, Gabby Perea and Elise Byun will be recognized along with Quay immediately following the tri-meet. The seniors are expected to make one more appearance at Haas Pavilion when Cal hosts the NCAA regionals during the first week of April.
LI NOMINATED FOR AAI AWARD
Senior Andi Li is one of 50 nominees for the prestigious AAI Award, given annually to the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country. Li is a three-time All-American on the uneven bars and last season was named a Second-Team All-American on all-around. She also helped the Bears to the first two conference championships in program history.
BEARS DOMINATE WEEKLY HONORS
The Pac-12 has issued 10 Gymnast of the Week honors this season, and the Bears have won six of them. Sophomore eMjae Frazier has won the last three in a row as well as on Jan. 16, while junior Mya Lauzon took the honor in back-to-back weeks on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30. Frazier is now the only Cal gymnast in history to capture the award in three consecutive weeks and win it four times during a single season.
50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Last season marked the 50th year of California women's gymnastics, and the Bears honored the occasion last month with a memorable gala the evening before their meet against Oregon State. Alumni across different decades attended the event at the University Club at California Memorial Stadium, and they were also honored during the meet against the Beavers.
CRANDALL-HOWELL REACHES CENTURY MARK
Cal co-head coach Liz Crandall Howell notched her 100th career victory with the Bears' win over Oregon State on Jan. 27. Crandall-Howell has an overall record of 106-41-2 since joining Justin Howell as co-head coach in 2018. Crandall-Howell and Howell were named the WCGA Co-Head Coaches of the Year last season.
CAL PICKED THIRD IN PAC-12 PRESEASON POLL
Cal was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll for the seventh consecutive year. The top half of this year's poll shook out to be nearly identical to last season's, as Utah claimed the top spot with 46 points and five first-place votes and UCLA placed second with 43 points and the three remaining first-place votes. The Golden Bears followed in third with 43 points and Oregon State placed fourth with 30 points. All four programs tied for the Pac-12 regular-season title in 2023. Arizona State (22), Stanford (19), Washington (14) and Arizona (10) rounded out the rest of the poll.

Frazier burst onto the scene in her freshman year, helping the Golden Bears to a historic year that included the program's first NCAA Regional Final title and a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She earned NCAA All-American Second-Team honors in the all-around, vault and floor and broke the program mark for the all-around twice last season. Frazier also became the first Bear to earn a perfect 10 on the floor exercise and was named a WCGA First-Team All-American on the event as well.
Lauzon had a breakout sophomore campaign a season ago, setting a Cal program mark with the Bears' first perfect 10 on the balance beam and tying the program's all-around mark in the same competition with a 39.700. She earned regular-season and NCAA All-America honors on the vault and balance beam and became the first Bear to win a Pac-12 title on beam.
BACK-TO-BACK CO-CHAMPS
The Bears secured back-to-back Pac-12 regular-season titles last March as the championship was once again split among four teams. They ended the season with a 4-1-2 conference record. The 2022 title was the first conference championship in program history.
THE LAST DANCE
This will be Cal's last season in the Pac-12 conference as the school announced it will be joining the ACC in the fall of 2024. The ACC is currently in its first season of women's gymnastics.
