Loaded Field Contains Six Ranked Teams
BERKELEY – After a successful weekend at the San Diego Crew Classic where the California women's rowing team's 3V8+ won the Carley Copley Cup and the 1V8+, 2V8+ and V4+ all finished in second or third place of their respective grand finals ahead of ranked opponents, the Golden Bears moved up to No. 4 in this week's Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll.
This week, Cal heads east to compete in the ACC/Pac-12 Invite, where it will race its 1V8+, 2V8+, V4+ and 2V4+ against No. 8 Syracuse, No. 11 Virginia and No. 18 Oregon State. The races will take place at Lake Monticello in Fluvanna County, Virginia.
At last year's NCAA Championships, Cal went up against Syracuse and Virginia in the petite final of the V8+ and finished in sixth place behind both teams. At last year's Pac-12 Championships, the Bears finished ahead of the Beavers in the 1V8+, 2V8+, 3V8+ and V4+ finals.
"This weekend presents another fantastic opportunity to race against some of the fastest teams in the country in No. 8 Syracuse, No. 11 UVA, and No. 18 Oregon State," Cal head coach Al Acosta said. "We made good progress in training during this short week and will apply the lessons learned from San Diego. The team is excited about the cross country trip to a new venue, as we have never raced at Virginia, and getting to race in front of our east coast families and friends."
There will not be a live stream or live results for the competition; however, results will be posted with the recap at the conclusion of each day on www.calbears.com.
