No. 4 Cal Heads To Pac-12 Championships

BERKELEY – The No. 4 California women's rowing team is set to compete in the Pac-12 Championships this Sunday at Lake Natoma in Gold River. The Golden Bears will be looking for their first conference title since 2018. The program has brought home 12 Pac-12 Championships since the event started in 1987.

At last year's championships, the Golden Bears put themselves in contention to take home the Pac-12 championship as they were just 4.5 points behind Stanford and Washington heading into the final race. But Cal came away with third place in the varsity eight race to finish third overall.

All races will air on Pac-12 Network beginning at 9 a.m. PT. Live results will be posted here.

The Bears are coming off the Big Row where they were swept by No. 2 Stanford. This year's field will feature four ranked teams – Cal, Stanford, No. 8 Washington and No. 17 Washington State.

"Since the Stanford races, we've been readjusting our lineups, training hard, and working to emphasize specific points of the stroke," Cal head coach Al Acosta said. "After San Diego (April), all of our races have been dual or three-way format. At the Pac-12s it will be seven boats across, so there will be some extra excitement and energy that comes with racing a full field. However, the team is primarily motivated to simply have our best race of the year. I don't think it really matters where we race or against whom we race. Our primary focus is to go harder and faster than we've gone all year."

Scoring System
Teams are given points for where they place in the first, second and third varsity eight races along with the varsity four race using the below scoring structure. The finish in the varsity eight race is used as a tiebreaker in case teams are tied in total points.
