Masses Added To Bednarik Award Watch List
Cornerback Leads College Football In Interceptions
The Maxwell Football Club announced Thursday that California cornerback Hezekiah Masses has been added to its mid-season watch list for the 31st Chuck Bednarik Award, given annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.
Masses, a senior from Deerfield Beach, Florida, is currently tied for the most interceptions (4) in college football. Through his first five games as a Golden Bear, he has tallied four interceptions while also adding 22 tackles and six pass breakups.
The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1994 and is named in honor of Chuck "Concrete Charlie" Bednarik, who was an All-American player at Pennsylvania and later a multiple-year All-Pro linebacker and center for the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a member of both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame and was the last NFL player to be a full-time player on both offense and defense.
