Bears Close Out Indoor Regular Season With 4 More Top 10s
SEATTLE – One day after posting the fourth-best distance medley relay time in program history at the Husky Classic, four California track & field men found themselves moving up the individual top-10 lists Saturday with a quartet of outstanding performances at the Dempsey to close out the indoor regular season.
For the first time in history, two Golden Bear men ran the mile in under four minutes. Redshirt senior
Garrett MacQuiddy was Cal's top performer of the day, subtracting a second off his career best with a new school record of 3:57.65 that surpassed alumnus Mark Matusak's 3:58.36 set at the same meet 15 years ago. Sophomore
Justin Pretre, who made his way onto the program's top-10 list two weeks ago, jumped up four spots to No. 4 with a personal-best time of 3:59.34 as just the fifth Cal man to post a mark under four minutes in the indoor mile.
Junior
Caden Carney also performed well, shaving over five-and-a-half seconds off his PR for a time of 4:04.79, while sophomore
