Bernardo Munk Mesa earned the California men's tennis team's first ACC weekly honor when he was named the ACC Freshman of the Week after clinching recent Cal road wins at No. 6 Virginia and No. 63 Virginia Tech.
 
Last Friday against the Cavaliers with the match tied 3-3, Munk Mesa won in a clutch three-set performance over Mans Dahlberg 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5) to hand the Golden Bears a 4-3 victory. On Sunday against the Hokies, the Spaniard prevailed in another tight match over Victor Kimpel 7-6(4), 7-6(7) to secure an eventual 7-0 win for Cal and improve his singles record to 12-9.
 
Munk Mesa and 10th-ranked Cal (13-2) return to action in three matches this week – Wednesday at No. 60 Old Dominion, Friday at Boston College and Sunday at No. 61 SMU.
