KEY THINGS TO KNOW
END OF REGULAR SEASON - Cal closes its regular season by hosting a three-game ACC series against Boston College at Stu Gordon Stadium. The series will be played Thursday-Saturday instead of the customary Friday-Sunday to help allow for travel to the ACC Baseball Championship May 20-25 in Durham, N.C.
ACC SEEDINGS ON THE LINE - Cal (7-20 ACC) starts the final ACC series of the season three games behind Boston College (10-17 ACC) in the standings but can catch the Eagles with a three-game sweep. If the two were to end the season in a two-way tie with the same 10-20 conference record, Cal would win the tiebreaker based on winning all three games in the head-to-head series. Cal's finish in the ACC standings and therefore its seeding in the ACC Championships could still also be impacted by the results in their final ACC series of two other teams still within their reach in the standings – Pitt (10-17) and Stanford (9-18). The Bears have not played Pitt in 2025 but swept Stanford in a three-game ACC series March 22-24. The brackets for the 2025 ACC Championships will be announced on Saturday shortly after the conclusion of all conference games.
SENIOR DAY ON SATURDAY - Cal will honor a 13-player senior class in a pregame ceremony before its final game at Stu Gordon Stadium on Saturday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The team's seniors are RHP
Lucas Alaniz, C
Alex Birge, RHP
Tucker Bougie, C
Nico Button, UTL
Joey Donnelly, RHP
Jake Guardiancic, OF
Seth Gwynn, INF
Max Handron, INF
Jeff Hoffman, INF
Jack Johnston, LHP
Logan Piper, LHP
David Shaw and RHP
Cole Tremain. The scheduled first pitch for Saturday's contest has been pushed back 15 minutes to 1:15 p.m. PT to accommodate the pregame ceremony.
MORE ABOUT FLORIDA STATE WIN – Cal defeated No. 2 Florida State last Saturday, 5-0.
The last time the Bears had beaten a team ranked higher was a 4-1 road win over a No. 1 UCLA squad in the middle game of a three-game series on April 19, 2019. Cal was also an 8-4 winner over a No. 2 Stanford squad in a nonconference game on The Farm on Feb. 21, 2023.
ADVINCULA'S ALL-AMERICAN CASE - 2B
Jarren Advincula, a first-team All-Pac-12 choice in 2024, has put together an All-American caliber season in 2025. Advincula's 73 hits are tied for second among the nation's second basemen, as well as fourth overall in the ACC.
TEAM BATTING TITLE - OF
Jacob French and 2B
Jarren Advincula go into the final series of the regular season in a tight race for the team batting title with French (.351) currently two percentage points ahead of Advincula (.349).
CLOSE CONTESTS - Cal has played 14 games decided by two runs or less in 2025 and is 3-11 in those contests, including a current stretch of six straight losses.
SIX TOP 25 ACC SERIES - Six of Cal's 10 ACC series in its first season in the league have been against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the series. The Bears played five straight series against ranked teams to start their ACC slate (No. 14 Virginia, at No. 14 Stanford, at No. 18 Louisville, No. 6 Clemson, at No. 18 Georgia Tech) before their most recent series with No. 2 Florida State, with the Seminoles the highest ranked team to play in Berkeley since No. 1 Oregon State swept a three-game Pac-12 series against the Bears on March 10-12, 2018. Cal also played current No. 13 NC State but the Wolfpack was not in the Top 25 at the time.
MIDWEEK SUCCESS - Cal finished 8-3 in midweek contests in 2025.
BIG LEAGUERS - Cal has seven former players currently on MLB rosters in OF/1B Mark Canha (Royals), RHP Lucas Erceg (Royals), RHP Grant Holman (Athletics), C Korey Lee (White Sox), MGR Bob Melvin (San Francisco Giants), INF Marcus Semien (Rangers) and OF Andrew Vaughn (White Sox). Holman was called up from Triple-A on April 24, while the others started the 2025 season on big league rosters. Lee is currently on the White Sox injured list.
MAY 15 GOOD TO THE BEARS - May 15 has been a good date for the Bears with a current five-game win streak that dates back to their last loss on the date in 2002 at San Jose State. Since then, the Bears have swept a doubleheader against Northwestern (2016), knocked off Stanford twice (2017, '21) and defeated New Mexico (2023).
SERIES PROMOTIONS - Cal will have several promotions for the final home series of the season against Boston College. Thursday is Wii Sports Night followed by Fan Appreciation Night on Friday and Senior Day/Saturdays at The Stu on Saturday. Cal will also honor long-time program supporter and Athletics scout John Hughes on Saturday.
