ESSEN, Germany – California men's gymnastics' Matteo Bardana, a rising sophomore who posted a standout rookie campaign for the Golden Bears and earned a spot on the Canadian Senior Next Gen National Team in February, continued his streak of success by helping his native Canada clinch a silver medal at the FISU World University Games this week. This is the first time in history that Canada has won a men's artistic gymnastics medal of any color on this particular stage.

The team competition lasted from Tuesday-Wednesday, with Canada competing the first day and compiling a total score of 239.593. Bardana contributed scores of 12.533 (floor), 12.933 (vault), 12.566 (parallel bars) and 12.533 (high bar) to the group; the last of those helped Canada to second place on the event with a combined score of 41.032.

Japan finished first in the standings with a team score of 252.027, while Switzerland came third at 239.162.
