Cal Draws With Clemson 2-2

Kostmayer Earns Brace

CLEMSON, S.C.– The California women's soccer team capped off its first ACC road trip of the season with a 2-2 draw at Clemson on Sunday in the first meeting between the two programs. Senior forward Lumi Kostmayer provided both goals to earn her first brace as a Golden Bear.

Cal (4-1-5, 1-0-1 ACC) is headed home with four points and an undefeated record in the ACC standings after defeating Pitt on Thursday 2-1. The Tigers (3-1-5, 0-0-2) earned their second straight 2-2 draw to start their conference slate.

After a scoreless first half, Kostmayer got the Bears on the board in the 52nd minute with her third goal of the season. Junior Miriam Hils played a ball into the box that ricocheted off a Tiger defender directly to Kostmayer. After one touch the senior transfer fired in the opening goal deflecting it off Clemson goalkeeper Nona Reason. Hils earned the assist giving the defender her first point of the year.

In the 60th minute Kostmayer struck again winning a long ball from junior Reese Doherty and slipping past the Clemson backline. With just the keeper to beat Kostmayer dribbled down the left side of the box to draw out Reason and flicked a shot with her right foot that banked off the far post and in. She is the first Bear to notch a multigoal game this season.
On Thursday Clemson came back from down two goals to tie No. 3 Stanford and had an encore performance Sunday scoring a pair of goals in a six-minute span to even it at 2-2.

Senior goalkeeper Teagan Wy earned six saves for Cal and continues to pace the ACC with 43 this season.

Cal now returns home for its final non-conference match of the regular season playing host to Santa Clara on Saturday. Kick off is set for 4 p.m. at Edwards Stadium.
