3-0 Cal To Play At Snapdragon Stadium For First Time

The California football team (3-0, 0-0 ACC) will head south to face San Diego State (1-1, 0-0 MW) on Saturday night in San Diego. The Golden Bears and the Aztecs will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT with the game set to be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.

NORCAL BEARS VS. SOCAL AZTECS
- California football and San Diego State have met nine times since 1982. Cal holds a slight 5-4 all-time series advantage over SDSU, with both teams collecting all of their wins at home.
- Saturday will be the first time Cal has ever played at Snapdragon Stadium. The Aztecs began playing all home football games at the recently built facility in 2022.
- The Bears claimed a 31-10 victory over the Aztecs last year in Berkeley to improve to their first 3-0 start since 2019.
- Cal last made the trip to San Diego in 2016 with the Aztecs 45-40 winners in a wild game at Qualcomm Stadium.
- Cal's other wins came in 1982, 1993 and 1996, while SDSU won in 1983, 1994 and 1995.

- Has started its season 3-0 for the second straight year, following its 27-14 win over Minnesota last weekend in Berkeley. This is the fifth time in Wilcox's nine years as Travers Family Head Football Coach that the Bears have started the season 3-0.
- Will look to go 4-0 to start the season for the first time since 2019 when the Bears beat UC Davis, then-No. 14 Washington in Seattle, North Texas and Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi.
- Has recorded three-straight double-digit wins for the first time in 16 years. The Bears last put up at least three-consecutive wins by 10 or more points in 2009, when they opened the season with wins over Maryland (52-13), Eastern Washington (59-7) and Minnesota (35-21).
- Is the only team in the ACC and one of 27 teams nationally to be 100% on scoring in the redzone. On 13 trips to the redzone, 10 have resulted in touchdowns (76.9%). The Bears scored touchdowns on just 24-of-47 (51.1%) of their trips to the redzone in 2024.
- Has put up strong first-quarter starts and fourth-quarter finishes. The Bears have scored 24 points in the first quarter through three combined games and have not allowed any to be scored against them in the opening quarter. Cal is outscoring opponents 30-9 in the fourth quarter this season.
 
SAGAPOLUTELE NAMED ACC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME IN THREE WEEKS
- True freshman QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time in three weeks, following his career-performance against Minnesota last Saturday.
- Sagapolutele had his second three-touchdown game against the Gophers, finishing 24-of-38 for career-high 279 passing yards and three passing TDs. He also threw the longest pass of his career with a 51-yard completion to WR Jaiven Plummer, which was Cal's longest play from scrimmage this season.
- Sagapolutele has improved his passing yards each game, throwing for 234 at Oregon State, 259 vs. Texas Southern and 279 against Minnesota. He has only thrown one interception.
 
MASSES CATCHES PASSES
- DB Hezekiah Masses has recorded three interceptions in as many games this season. He leads the ACC in interceptions and ties for first nationally.
- Masses also tops the nation in passes defended with 9 (3.00 PDPG) with six PBUs in addition to the three interceptions.
- With his third-quarter interception against Minnesota, which was the sixth of his career and third at Cal, Masses has now logged picks in the second, third and fourth quarters of a game at Cal.
- Masses picked off TSU at the end of the second quarter and returned it 28 yards to get the Bears' offense back out on the field. He returned a fourth-quarter interception 41 yards at OSU in his debut for the Bears.
 
AERIAL ATTACK AGAINST GOPHERS SPREADS BALL AROUND
- Cal had nine different players catch passes in its air raid against Minnesota on Saturday.
- WR Jacob De Jesus caught his first TD reception of the season in the first quarter against the Gophers, en route to posting a Cal-career high 7 catches for 54 total receiving yards.
- WR Jaiven Plummer hauled in a 51-yard reception against the Gophers for Cal's longest play from scrimmage this season. It was the first catch of his collegiate career.
- WR Jordan King recorded his career-first touchdown with a 2-yard catch in the fourth quarter.
- TE Mason Mini scored his second TD of both the season and his career.
- WR Trond Grizzell led the Bears with 60 receiving yards on four catches. Also logging catches in the game were WR Mark Hamper, WR QuaRon Adams, TE Jeffrey Johnson and RB Kendrick Raphael.
 
LINEBACKERS STUFF STAT SHEET
- ILB Luke Ferrelli matched his career-high with 11 tackles against the Gophers. He leads the Bears in total tackles this season with 27.0, including 1.5 TFL (-4 yds). Ferrelli ranks sixth in the ACC in total tackles.
- ILB Cade Uluave recorded nine tackles in the second half against Minnesota, after sitting out the first half from a targeting penalty incurred against Texas Southern. He had the Bears' second-most total tackles against the Gophers.
- OLB TJ Bush Jr. had his second sack in as many games against Minnesota. He pushed the Gophers back five yards.
- ILB Aaron Hampton recorded his first career sack to push Minnesota back nine yards. It was his first TFL. He also set a new personal best with three total tackles in the game.
- OLB Ryan McCulloch continued to pressure the quarterback, logging one QB hurry and one pass breakup against the Gophers.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS MAKES SERIOUS IMPACT
- WR and Cal's top returner De Jesus ranks fourth in the ACC for the second consecutive week with a 26.0 average in kick return yards and moved up one spot to fifth in the conference in punt returns with a 15.4 average. His 406 all-purpose yards rank fourth in the ACC.
- P Michael Kern punted five times for 235 yards, the most of his Cal career this season. He averaged 47 yards per punt, including two punts that traveled 50+ yards. Kern pinned the Gophers inside the 20 three times.
- DB Aiden Manutai recovered a muffed punt to set up a fourth-quarter scoring drive for the Bears and seal their victory over the Gophers.
- Cal is 100% on field goal attempts this season. Abram Murray and Chase Meyer have each made three field goal attempts, with Meyer also going 10-of-10 on PATs this season.
