ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Appearing in their second meet as a team this year, California track & field recorded several more impressive performances Friday as they competed in six men's and six women's events on day one of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational, held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The standout result of the day belonged to freshman Pietro Camilli, who added over a foot to his freshman record in the weight throw with a second-place mark of 19.98m (65-6.75) and jumped three spots to No. 4 on Cal's all-time performers list. Redshirt freshman Miles Clark launched a huge PR of his own, throwing the weight 19.08m (52-7.25) to improve by nearly two feet and land at No. 10 in program history while finishing third in the competition. On the women's side, the Golden Bears claimed the top-three spots, with junior Adrianna Coleman (19.67m/64-6.5) claiming her second straight title in the event. She was followed in the standings by sophomore Valentina Savva (19.05m/62-6) and junior Angie Schykerynec (18.67m/61-3).

On the track, both the men's and women's unseeded 200m races featured a pair of Cal sprinters that posted new top-10 entries. Sophomore Wazell Wright lowered his PR by .25 seconds to 21.31, making his debut on the all-time program list at No. 7, while classmate Nairobi Smith won her heat by .33 seconds in the women's event with a time of 24.12 to rise from sixth to fifth in school history.

Two more Bears – junior sprinter Arian Naim and freshman vaulter Kai Anderson – posted top-two finishes in their events. Naim took second place in the unseeded 400m race, winning his heat by 1.2 seconds with a time of 49.39, while Anderson matched his PR of 5.10m (16-8.75) to claim second in the pole vault B section. The latter competition also featured a massive personal best from multi-eventer Luke Buddie, who added nearly a foot to his previous mark to finish at 4.50m (14-9).

Other Bears to record personal records were junior transfer Josh Myers (200m, 22.36), freshman Tiffany Williams (200m, 25.59), freshman Diana Scott (200m, 26.02) and freshman Kimiko Hirahara (high jump, 1.61m/5-3.25). Sophomore Kosi Nwafor and freshman Avery Hart each competed in the indoor long jump for the first time in their collegiate careers, recording marks of 6.03m (19-9.5) and 5.08m (16-8), respectively.

Senior long jumper Jason Plumb just missed a top-three spot in his event with his mark of 7.52m (24-8.25), as did sophomore Kai Barham in the weight throw (18.70m/61-4.25).
