SANTA CLARA – The California softball team split its Saturday slate at the Silicon Valley Classic, defeating UC Santa Barbara 9-4 before falling 8-4 loss to Santa Clara to close out day two of tournament play.

Game 1: Cal 9, UCSB 4
Cal opened the scoring capitalizing on a Gauchos error to take an early 1-0 lead. UC Santa Barbara responded in the home half of the first with a sacrifice fly to left field to even the score.

The Bears regained control in the second inning, plating two runs to move ahead 3-1. Emma Jackson broke the tie with a sacrifice fly, and Gator Robinson later stole home to extend the advantage.

Carly Raven added to the momentum in the third with a single up the middle to make it 4-1. UCSB trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the home half on an RBI single.

Cal's decisive surge came in the fourth inning. D'Auna Johnson crushed a no-doubt three-run homer, highlighting a three-run frame that pushed the lead to 7-2. Anaya Togia later delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth to stretch the margin to 8-2.

Though UCSB added a solo homer and an RBI single late, Kyndal Todd's RBI double in the seventh provided insurance, sealing a 9-4 victory.

Kiki Mashhoud (1-1) earned her first win of the season, tossing four innings in relief. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out two.

Game 2: Cal 4, SCU 8
Cal found itself trailing early in the second game of the doubleheader. Santa Clara erupted for four runs in the first inning on four hits and an error, putting the Bears in a 4-0 deficit.

After a scoreless second, the Broncos extended their lead with two more runs in the third. Gator Robinson sparked Cal's offense in the fourth, delivering a two-run double to cut the deficit to 6-2.

Santa Clara answered with a run in the fourth and another in the sixth, building an 8-2 cushion.

Anaya Togia provided a late highlight, launching a two-run homer to right field. Togia finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored in the loss. Taylor Peacock (0-1) was charged with her first loss of the season.

The Bears (3-6) close out the Silicon Valley Classic on Sunday as they take on Illinois State.
