Cal Women’s Basketball Coach Named Assistant For U18 National Team

Charmin Smith has been added as an assistant coach to the 2026 USA Women's U18 National Team, it was announced by USA Basketball on Tuesday.
Smith joins head coach Niele Ivey (Notre Dame) and assistant coach Robyn Fralick (Michigan State) and will help lead the USA at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup, set for June 8-14 (location TBA). The USA will look to capture its 12th straight gold medal and 13th overall since the tournament's inception in 1988.
This marks Smith's second stint with Team USA as she previously served as a court coach for the 2024 USA Women's U18 National Team trials in Colorado Springs, Colo. She currently is on her best two-year stretch as the head coach at Cal, where the team has compiled a 27-4 record at Haas Pavilion, has won 19 straight nonconference regular season games, earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018-19, had its first 25-win season since the 2012-13 season and earned its first AP Top 25 ranking since 2018-19.
Coaching selections for the U18 national team were made by the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee and all selections were approved by the USA Basketball Board of Directors.
