FULLERTON – The California softball team defeated Seattle University 4-3 at the Judi Garman Classic on Friday afternoon.
Cal opened the scoring in the second inning when Anaya Togia drove an RBI double to deep left field. Mya McGowan later crossed the plate on a popout in foul territory, extending the Bears' lead to 2-0 through two innings.
Seattle responded in the fourth, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 advantage. Cal answered in the bottom half of the inning as Togia delivered again, launching a two-run homer over the left field wall to reclaim a 4-3 lead.
Taylor Peacock (1-1) earned her first win of the season, giving up one earned run on five hits in four innings of work. Layna Gerhard recorded the final nine outs to pick up her first save of the season. Gerhard allowed no runs on two hits and struck out one batter over three innings of work.
The Bears (6-13) continue play at the Judi Garman Classic on Saturday with games against Oregon State and Cal State Fullerton.
