GREENVILLE, Ill. – The California men's gymnastics team competed in its first out-of-state meet this season Saturday, flying east to meet Greenville and Simpson at H.J. Long Gymnasium for the first time in program history. Although the Golden Bears started the afternoon off strong and posted several season bests, the Panthers came out on top on their senior day, posting a season-high score of 306.650 to Cal's 306.600 and the Storm's 290.650.

As a team, the Bears won titles on pommel horse (53.200), rings (52.200) and high bar (49.100). Redshirt senior Jasper Smith-Gordon and sophomore Troy Nuesca won the individual titles on pommel horse and rings with scores of 13.750 and 13.250, respectively.

Cal started off the meet on pommel horse, improving its season-best total by .850 points thanks to improvements from all four members of its lineup. Both Smith-Gordon and junior Harry Kim (13.600) posted stellar execution scores of 8.5 or better on routines that had at least a 5.0 difficulty ranking, subsequently earning the top-two spots in the final meet standings.

The Bears swept the podium on rings, with Nuesca (13.250) and senior Theodor Roald Gadderud (13.150) both recording sticks and junior Jaxon Mitchell anchoring the lineup with a strong 13.200. From there, however, the Bears struggled to find their usual form on each of the subsequent events despite junior Tucker Yasunaga's season bests on floor (13.250, good for second place) and parallel bars (12.950), losing their team lead for good after the fourth rotation thanks to a late surge from the energized Greenville squad.
