Bears Rout Roadrunners, Win 7th Straight

Cal Posts Season High 21 Hits

BERKELEY— The bats came out to play for the California baseball team on Wednesday as the Golden Bears routed CSU Bakersfield 15-6 at Stu Gordon Stadium in Berkeley. Eight of the Bears' starters collected a hit and seven notched multi-hit efforts in the Bears' highest scoring effort of the season.

With its seventh straight win Cal improved to 9-3 while the Roadrunners fell to 5-8.

CSUB threw 11 different arms, 10 of which gave up at least one hit as the Bears tallied 21, their most since a 23-5 win over New Mexico on May 14, 2022.

The Bears scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second, six in the third, and one each in the fourth and fifth to jump out to a 13-1 lead. CSUB put up a five spot in the sixth to avoid a run rule and Cal wrapped up the scoring with two more runs in the bottom half of that inning.

Freshman Trent Roach took the bump for the Bears and picked up his first collegiate win tossing four strong innings in his third collegiate start. The righty allowed just one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four. Fellow freshmen Jett Wright and Duncan Russell both had solid outings out of the pen with each tossing a scoreless inning.

First baseman Daniel Murillo got the night started in the bottom of the first with his second home run of the season. It was a two-run blast, on his way to a five-hit, four-RBI night where he was a triple shy of the cycle.

Centerfielder Joshua Hanson followed with a two-run homer of his own, the first of his career. It was a towering shot that went 385 feet and set him up for the best night of his freshman campaign going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs and a walk.
Second baseman Jacob French went 4-for-6 with two runs and 4 RBI and shortstop Jett Kenady added a 3-for-4 effort with two runs and a double.

The Bears are back at Stu Gordon Stadium this Friday for the first of a four-game weekend series with San Diego (7-4). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. on ACCNX.
