Cal Unable To Complete Comeback In 10-9 Loss To NC State

Bears Drop Series Finale Despite Late Push

RALEIGH – The California softball team came up short in game three against NC State, 10-9, on Sunday evening at Dail Softball Stadium.

The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single up the middle from Anaya Togia. The Wolfpack responded with a four-run bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead.

Cal answered with a four-run inning of its own in the second to move in front, 5-4. Sophia Everett singled up the middle and later scored on an error. Maddie Rey and Togia each recorded RBI singles to give the Bears the lead.

NC State scored five runs in the bottom of the second and added one more in the third to take a commanding 10-5 lead.

D'auna Johnson and Rey each drove in a run in the sixth to pull Cal within three, 10-7. Mya McGowan crushed a two-run homer over the left-field wall in the seventh to bring the Bears within one, but Cal was unable to complete the comeback.

With the loss, the Bears fall to 13-30 overall and 3-15 in ACC play. Cal will travel to Southern California for a midweek matchup at CSUN on Thursday afternoon.
