Middle-Distance Runners Shine At Bryan Clay
Bears Record 3 PRs, 2 Heat Wins In Azusa
AZUSA/WALNUT – The California track & field team sent a quartet of middle-distance runners to race at Cougar Athletic Stadium in the Bryan Clay Invitational and a much larger contingent to Hilmer Lodge Stadium for Day 3 of the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, crossing over into the second half of a four-day slate of competition for the Golden Bears.
In Azusa, freshman
Salma Bejia posted the fastest time of her collegiate career in the Bryan Clay 800m invite, crossing the finish line in 2:05.76, while senior teammate
Carolina Dawson shaved over a second off her PR with a time of 2:08.32. Both of the men won their 800m invite heats as rookie
Jackson Hein recorded a personal-best 1:49.33 and junior
Lamarr Kirk Jr. turned in a respectable 1:49.58.

Julian Doak represented Cal's distance runners will in the Mt. SAC 1500m invite race, cutting his own PR by nearly three seconds to a fifth-place 3:52.81. Three Bears – freshman

Nik Iwankiw – recorded top-six finishes: Bayon posted a mark of 1.95m (6-4.75) in the high jump, Bolaños leaped 15.56m (50-8.25) in the triple jump and Iwankiw's best throw in the discus flew 51.78m (169-10).

Kimiko Hirahara tied for fourth place in the women's collegiate high jump A section with a mark of 1.60m (5-3), while classmate
Avery Hart reached the triple jump final and ended with a mark of 12.50m (41-0.25). Junior
Lucija Leko ended the afternoon by reaching the women's discus final, finishing at 48.76m (166-6).
