DUISBURG, Germany – California women's rowing was well represented on the international stage at the U23 World Rowing Championships this past weekend in Duisburg, Germany. Seven of the 10 Golden Bears at the event brought home hardware for their countries, highlighted by a pair of gold medals won by Ella Wheeler for the United States.

Wheeler took home two gold medals for the United States in the women's 4- and mixed 8+. She rowed in the Team USA mixed 8+ entry and was joined by Cal men's rower Michael Kain, who was the coxswain. Wheeler now has three U23 World Rowing Championship medals under her belt after helping the United States women's 8+ crew claim silver at last year's competition.

Allegra O'Sullivan and Lola Crampin helped Great Britain win the silver this year, while Julia Irmler and Charlotte Johnson helped Germany claim the bronze in the women's 8+. They were the first age-grade world medals for all four student-athletes.

Lotta van Westreenen and Minou Bouman also collected bronze medals for The Netherlands in the mixed 8+ event. Fellow Bear Bonnie Mollee was named an alternate for the Dutch crew.

Vittoria Pastorelli stroked Italy's women's 8+ entry which finished sixth, while Madeline Cox came in fifth in the B final of the women's single scull event.

The complete results from the event can be found on the official World Rowing website.
