BERKELEY - Correy Johnson was instrumental in the Golden Bears opening the season at a 3-0 clip in their Cal Molten Classic and was justly awarded as the tournament's MVP, making her this week's California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week.
She led the Bears (with more than one attempt) with her .500 attacking percentage - hitting .500 or above in all three matches including a weekend-best .583 against Fairfield.
In what was the most challenging match of the weekend for Cal - Saturday evening's outing versus FIU - Johnson absolutely shined with a team-high 12 kills to bring her weekend total to 21. Averaging 3.25 points per set, the Winter Park, Fla., native also made five digs and had two aces.
On the defensive side of things, Johnson had six block assists to average 0.75 blocks per set.
