The Cal men's swimming team won the first nine races with eight different individual champs Thursday (Feb. 7) during a 135-113 victory over CSU Bakersfield at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The Golden Bears opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:28.51) behind the swims of senior Ryan Studebaker, freshman Josh Prenot and senior Chris Packer.
Cal, the 2011 and 2012 NCAA team champions, improved its dual meet record to 5-0 as it prepares to face No. 3-ranked USC in a televised meet (shown Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. on the Pac-12 Networks) on Friday (Feb. 8) at 1 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Following the Bears opening victory in the 200 medley relay, junior Marcin Tarczynski captured the 100 breast (57.04), freshman Michael Haney was first in the 200 fly (1:49.78), Packer won the 50 free (20.65), freshman Trent Williams won the 100 free (45.56) and sophomore Jesse Ryckman was victorious in the 200 back (1:49.57).
After winning the first nine events, David Durden's squad swam the final five events as exhibitions.
Following the USC meet, the Bears conclude their 2012-13 dual meet season Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. versus Bay Area rival Stanford at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
