Biography

Cal Success:
  • Saw his first game action as a Golden Bear in 2017 and contributed one field block apiece in matches against Santa Clara and San Jose State.
  • Joined the Bears for the 2016 season and redshirted.
High School/National/Club Success:
  • Local product starred at Tamalpais High School for head coach Bob Kustel. Was a four-time All-Marin County Athletic League performer and was named team MVP in 2015.
  • Named a sixth-team All-American in 2015. Also named an All-North Coast Section Division II first team selection in both 2015 and 2014.
  • Helped Tamalpais reach the North Coast Section championship match in 2015 for the first time in over 16 years. Ended his career as Tam's all-time leading scorer.
  • Also played for Sleepy Hollow Aquatic Club under coach Matt Swanson.
  • Three-year letterman in swimming for Tamalpais was a 2016 All-American in the 200 freestyle relay. Also lettered one year in volleyball.

Personal:
  • Parents are Paul Hettler and Susan Turner. Has one sibling, Sierra.
  • Mother, Susan, competed in track and field for Boise State while father, Paul, competed in water polo at DeAnza College. 
  • Two-time Academic All-American (2013-14).
  • Qualified and competed at the USA Triathlon Youth Elite National Championship in West Chester, Ohio.
  • Intended Political Science major.
