No. 2 Cal Men's Water Polo Wins, 16-6, At No. 8 Pacific

STOCKTON, CALIF. - The No. 2-ranked California men's water polo team (25-3, 6-1 MPSF); led by senior Brian Bacharach's three goals and two goals apiece from John Mann, Mike Hayes, Marty Matthies and Zac Monsees; defeated No. 8-ranked Pacific, 16-6, Saturday at Chris Kjeldsen Pool on the Pacific campus. Junior goalie Mark Sheredy also bolstered Cal with a match-high 10 saves.

The Golden Bears had jumped out to a 4-1 advantage in the first period before the Tigers scored twice to get within 4-3 after one quarter. Cal then outscored Pacific, 3-1, in the second quarter for a 7-4 halftime advantage. In the second half, the Bears scored nine straight goals, including six goals in the third period, to run away with the contest. Cal owned a 16-4 lead until the Tigers scored the last two goals to make the final score, 16-6.

Other scorers for the Bears included senior Brian Kinsel, redshirt freshman Grant Mitchell, sophomore Frank Reynolds, junior Michael Sharf and senior Andrija Vasiljevic. Matthies and redshirt freshman Spencer Warden paced Cal with two assists apiece, Vasiljevic had a team-best three steals and Mann forced a team-high three ejections.

Cal will next visit No. 14 UC Davis at noon, Sunday, Nov. 12 in a non-conference match in Davis.
