Cal Continues Homestand vs Oregon

BERKELEY – After suffering back-to-back losses to Top-20 opponents, the Cal women's basketball team (13-2, 1-2 Pac-12) looks to bounce back on Sunday, hosting Oregon (10-5, 0-3 Pac-12) at 1 pm PT at Haas Pavilion. The Ducks lead the all-time series between the schools, 36-32, though the Golden Bears have won seven of the last eight meetings, including four straight at Haas Pavilion.

The Snow Day in the Bay activities originally planned for Sunday have been postponed due to inclement weather in the forecast and will now be held on Sunday, January 22.

Cal suffered its first home loss of the 2016-17 campaign on Friday night, falling to No. 16 Oregon State, 66-56. Sophomore Kristine Anigwe led all scorers with 26 points, but it was not enough to overcome a stifling Beavers defense that held the Bears to a season low 38.3 field goal percentage. The 2016 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Anigwe ranks fifth in the nation in scoring (23.5 PPG) and has 10 double-doubles on the year. The Wade Trophy candidate is 12 points away from becoming the quickest player to score 1,000 points in Cal women's basketball history. Senior Courtney Range, the team's second leading scorer at 13.5 points per game, reached the 1,000-point mark earlier this season and currently ranks 24^th on the program's all-time scoring list.

Oregon opened the season 10-2 but has lost three straight and is coming off an 81-60 loss to No. 10 Stanford on Friday night. Walnut Creek-native Sabrina Ionescu, the team's second leading scorer with 13.2 points per game, returned to action against the Cardinal after missing five games with a broken thumb in her shooting hand. Fellow freshman Ruthy Hebard leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.9 points per game, and leads the nation with a 71.2 field goal percentage. Oregon went 9-9 in conference play last season, splitting both meetings with the Bears, and was picked to finish seventh in both the preseason Pac-12 Media and Coaches polls.

A LOOK AT THE DUCKS
Oregon is 10-5 on the season and 0-3 in O-3 in Pac-12 play. The Ducks are coming off an 81-60 loss to No. 10 Stanford Friday night at Maples Pavilion. Freshman forward Mallory McGwire led the Ducks with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her second career double-double while Ionescu had 14 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists in her first game back from injury.

Ionescu has two triple-doubles on the season and is second on the team in scoring, with 13.2 points per game. Classmate Ruthy Hebard leads nation with a 71.2 percent field goal percentage and leads the Ducks in both scoring (13.9 PPG) and rebounding (8.3 RPG).

Head Coach Kelly Graves is in his third season at Oregon, leading the Ducks to a 24-11 record last year and an appearance in the WNIT Tournament. It was Oregon's first 20-win season since reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2005.

Oregon was picked to finish seventh this year in both the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches' and Media Polls. Both polls had Cal finishing sixth.

LAST TIME OUT
After a back-and-forth affair in the first half, No. 16 Oregon State pulled ahead in the third quarter to beat 20th-ranked California, 66-56, Friday night at Haas Pavilion. The loss snapped Cal's seven-game home win streak and marked the team's second consecutive loss, both coming to Top-20 opponents.

Sophomore center Kristine Anigwe had a game-high 26 points for the Bears and matched her career-best with three steals, while senior Courtney Range added ten points and nine rebounds. Freshman Jaelyn Brown had a career-high five steals and eight points, but the Beavers stifling defense held the Bears to a season-low 56 points on 38.3 percent shooting from the field.

NEXT UP
The Bears will head back on the road next weekend, visiting Colorado on Friday, January 13 (6 pm PT) and Utah on Sunday, January 15 (11am PT). Friday's game against the Buffaloes will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks. Colorado started the season 10-0 and was ranked as high as No. 15 in the AP Poll, but has dropped three of its last four contests. The Buffaloes face No. 19 Arizona State on Sunday after earning their first conference win on Friday against Arizona.
