BERKELEY – The Cal women's soccer team will play its final home games of the 2017 regular season this weekend, hosting Oregon State and Oregon at Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears (11-2-1, 4-1-1 Pac-12) will face off against the Beavers (4-7-3, 1-4-1 Pac-12) on Thursday at 3 p.m. PT. Cal then closes out the weekend on Sunday, October 22, with an 11 a.m. tilt against Oregon (7-7-0, 1-5-0 Pac-12).
The five members of Cal's senior class – Guro Bergsvand, Emily Boyd, Indigo Gibson, Haley Lukas, and Heather Walleigh – will be recognized prior to Sunday's match for Senior Day. Cal's seniors enter the weekend with an overall record of 51-18-9 during their time in Berkeley, leading the team to NCAA appearances and academic honors each of the last three completed seasons.
Cal enters Thursday's match on a three-game winning streak and currently sits fourth in the Pac-12 standings, just three points out of second place. The Golden Bears kept pace with the league leaders last weekend after topping Washington State, 2-0, at Edwards Stadium for the team's third consecutive shutout and eighth clean sheet overall this season. Junior forward Miranda Nild opened the scoring for the Bears on Saturday, tallying her third game-winner and fifth goal overall this season. Sophomore striker Kayla Fong doubled Cal's lead midway through the second half, scoring her first collegiate goal.
The Bears now look to keep rolling against Oregon State and Oregon sides looking to climb the conference table. The Beavers were unbeaten in their previous two Pac-12 outings before dropping a 2-0 decision to Arizona their last time out. The Ducks earned their first conference win of the season last Friday, beating Arizona State, 3-0.

LAST TIME OUT
The Cal women's soccer team fought to its third consecutive conference win on Saturday, topping Washington State, 2-0, on a bright and clear afternoon at Goldman Field. Ready from the opening whistle, the Golden Bears scored on their first shot of the game as Nild finished a look from inside the box in just the sixth minute.
Cal doubled its lead in the 72nd minute with Fong's first career goal off an assist from sophomore Maggie Bell. Bell played a ball in from the left wing that found Fong with time to turn in the middle of the box. Fong pulled the goalkeeper off her line and buried the ball into the back of the net.
Cal's defense remained organized and active all afternoon, earning its third consecutive shutout in conference play. Senior goalkeeper Emily Boyd made three saves on the afternoon, including a diving stop on a shot headed far post in the 36th minute, to earn her 34th career shutout and move into a tie for fourth in Pac-12 women's soccer history.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Thursday's game will be the 28th meeting all-time between the Beavers and Bears, with Cal holding a 22-4-1 advantage overall in the series. Cal is unbeaten at home in its previous 14 matches against Oregon State (13-0-1), including a 3-0 victory last season at Edwards Stadium to open Pac-12 play. Then-freshman Mia Corbin scored the first two goals of her collegiate career to pace the Golden Bears while Arielle Ship dished out three assists, tying the program's single-game record.
Oregon State enters Thursday's match looking to bounce back from a 2-0 home loss to Arizona its last time out. The defeat vs the Wildcats snapped a two-game unbeaten streak in conference play, as the Beavers tied Washington, 0-0, on October 5 and picked up their first conference win on October 8 with a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Washington State.
Senior forward Emma Jones leads the Oregon State offense with two goals this season, including the game-winner against the Cougars, while midfielder Natalie Higgins has a team-high two assists on the year. Senior Bella Geist has played every minute for the Beavers in goal this season and has six shutouts on the year, tied for fourth among all Pac-12 goalkeepers.
SCOUTING THE DUCKS
Oregon enters the weekend on a high, beating Arizona State, 3-0, in its last outing. After dropping their first five matches in conference play, the Ducks responded on Friday afternoon, downing the Sun Devils behind a brace from Marissa Everett. The junior from Marissa Everett opened the scoring in the third minute and added another before halftime, finishing on a breakaway. Senior Miranda Schulz made it a three-goal lead for the Ducks with a goal in the 74th minute, as Oregon outshot Arizona State, 23-10.
Everett leads the Ducks offense this season with 14 points on five goals and four assists. Junior forward Kyra Fawcett is second on the team in scoring with four goals on the year, while Jessica Yu and Jayne Lydiatt also have multiple goals for the Ducks this season. Defensively, the Ducks have posed six shutouts on the year, including Friday's 3-0 blanking vs the Sun Devils. Halla Hinriksdottir has started every game for the Ducks this season in goal, posting a 1.05 goals against average.
Oregon opens the weekend at Stanford, facing the Cardinal Thursday night before heading to Berkeley. Sunday's match will be the 21st meeting all-time between the Ducks and Golden Bears. Cal holds a 17-2-1 edge in the series, including a 9-0-1 mark in matches played in Berkeley. The Golden Bears have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the teams, including a 2-0 victory last year in Eugene.
NEXT UP
The Bears will hit the road for the remainder of the regular season, closing out conference play with three consecutive road games. Cal heads down to Southern California next week for matches against No. 6 USC (Oct. 26) and No. 2 UCLA (Oct. 29). The Bears will then return to the Bay area for the regular season finale against top-ranked Stanford, squaring off against the Cardinal on the Farm at 7 p.m. PT. All three of Cal's remaining regular season games will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
