BERKELEY - After a successful start to the fall racing campaign at the Head of the Charles, the Cal men's rowing team returns to the water this weekend, sending boats to compete at both the Princeton Chase and the Head of the American.
The Head of the American will be held on Saturday at the familiar shores of Lake Natoma, where the Bears will have several boats competing in the Open 4+ and Open 8+ events. Cal will race against crews across the state, including Pac-12 foes UCLA and USC.
On Sunday, the Bears will have a freshman 8+ racing in both the Varsity 8+ and Freshman 8+ events at the Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie in New Jersey. Cal's freshmen will gain valuable experience racing against crews from across the nation, including boats from Georgetown, Princeton, Cornell, Penn, and the Yale lightweights.
Cal opened the 2017-18 campaign last weekend at the Head of the Charles, finishing as the fastest collegiate crew in both races it entered. The Golden Bears finished first in the championship eight, setting a course record in the process. It was also a successful outing for the Bears' four, which was the top collegiate finisher in the championship four.
