BERKELEY – Another sunny day ended unfavorably for California as they gave up the sweep to eighth-ranked Washington on Sunday in a 3-2 decision.
In their best showing of the weekend, the Golden Bears (27-19, 3-14 Pac-12) not only limited the Huskies (37-10, 11-7) to their lowest score of the series, but outhit their Pac-12 opponents 9-7 in game three.
Despite a serious hitting contingency from Cal, it was unable to recover from Washington's third three-run inning of the weekend.
The Bears did not go gently, posting its second homer of the series on Sunday, this time from Lindsay Rood who led off the bottom of the first going yard for the third time this season.
Again, sophomore Rood found the plate in the bottom of the third frame after she got on with a walk and made her way around the bases on a trio of hits by teammates Kylie Reed, Annie Aldrete and Khala Taylor, who got the RBI on a single.
Keeping the Huskies scoreless through the remaining six frames kept Cal in it the entire stretch, but the Bears could not find home to at least extend play to extra innings during critical frames.
Cal heads to Arizona State for its final road trip of the season with games Friday-Sunday available on Pac-12 Network.
