Li, Oh and Zhu All Notch Top-30 First Round Scores At Stanford Intercollegiate
STANFORD, Calif. – California women's golf opened the Stanford Intercollegiate with some stellar play from their top three lineup spots on Friday afternoon. The Bears sit in ninth-place after the first 18 holes of the three-day event at the Stanford Golf Course.
The team finished the day with a score of 292. However, Cal is in prime moving position as they are only five shots out of third place with 36 holes remaining.
The team's driving force this fall has been Cindy Oh. The senior is again atop the leaderboard as she sits in a tie for 14th. The Gardena native shot even par on the day as she recorded three birdies to finish with a score of 71.
Senior Marianne Li tied for her best round of the fall as she shot 1-over 72. Li recorded six birdies on the day and would have been in much better shape if not for two holes that marred her overall score. Li hit a triple bogey on the sixth hole and a double bogey on 18. Outside of those two holes she shot 5-under on the day, including sinking birdies on four of the final eight holes. She is tied for 20th after the first 18 holes.
Freshman Katherine Zhu showed her experience on the course as she shot 2-over 73 and finished in a tie for 29th place. Zhu, who has played the course before in U.S. Amateur Events, recorded two birdies on the day.
Elena Arias and Amina Wolf rounded out Cal's lineup as Arias shot 5-over 76 and Wolf shot a 7-over 78. Junior Maria Herraez Galvez also played as an individual and she shot 3-over 74 in the first round and is tied for 40th place heading into Saturday.
Cal will tee off at 8:25 a.m. tomorrow morning for the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate. The third round will be completed on Sunday morning.
