Arias & Herraez Galvez Both Shoot Team-Best 72 On Day Two
STANFORD, Calif. – California women's golf played the second round of the three-day Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course.
The team shot 13-over par and finished the day with a score of 297. After two days of competition, Cal sits in a tie for 12th place with Iowa State at 12-over par. Cal came into the day in ninth place, but a tough second day leaves them with ground to make up on the tournament's final day.
Cindy Oh leads the way for Cal as she sits in a tie for 27th place. The senior shot 2-over 73 on Saturday after posting a par score of 71 in the tournament's opening round. Oh recorded two birdies on the day and she has five over the first two days of action.
The Spanish duo of Elena Arias and Maria Herraez Galvez carded the Bears' best round of the day as they each shot 1-over 72. Arias climbed 10 places in the standings and now sits in a tie for 50th place. Her compatriot, Herraez Galvez moved up five places. Herraez Galvez is playing as an individual, but she moved into a tie for 35th. Both Arias and Herraez Galvez hit three birdies on the day.
Freshman Katherine Zhu notched a 3-over 74 and sits in a tie for 40th place. Zhu recorded four birdies on Saturday to back up the 73 she shot in Friday's first round. Zhu has continued to play well in her debut season.
After a standout opening round that was undone by two poor holes in the first round, the same thing happened to Marianne Li in the second round. However, this time Li didn't record six birdies to balance her scorecard. The senior finished the day 7-over 78, but most of the damage was done as she recorded a triple-bogey and double-bogey on back-to-back holes to end the front nine. Li fell into a tie for 60th at 8-over for the tournament.
Amina Wolf rounded out Cal's lineup as she shot 7-over 78 for the second consecutive day. Wolf is in a tie for 80th place.
Cal will tee off at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning for the third and final round of the Stanford Intercollegiate. The shotgun start will have the Bears teeing off from holes 12-16.
