BERKELEY – The 17th-ranked Golden Bears return to the road for their final tournament of the season before entering conference play next week.
California will head to Fresno State for a five-game weekend slate, starting with a doubleheader Friday.
Cal faces Monmouth (4-4) at noon (PT) before seeing UC Santa Barbara (8-12), for the third time this season, at 2:30 p.m. The Bears also close the weekend with an 11 a.m. matchup with the Hawks on Sunday.
Friday marks the first-ever meeting with Monmouth, which is coming off a 1-2 showing at the George Mason Patriot Classic in Fairfax, Va.
While Cal is 2-0 this season against the Gauchos, the third win will likely be another closely-contested battle.
Saturday will be another doubleheader day for the Blue and Gold with a 9 a.m. matchup against Cleveland State (8-6) and a pairing off with host-team Fresno State (9-10) at 5 p.m.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a 2-2 weekend and have gone through a tough tournament schedule that included contests against four PAC-12 opponents falling to Oregon, Arizona and UCLA, pulling in one win over Stanford. Cal trails in the overall series 48-64, sweeping Fresno State in the two-game series last season.
The Bears are coming off a 3-2 showing in Honolulu, led by Kamalani Dung, who picked up the tournament's Most Valuable Pitcher Award in the circle after going 3-0 through the week. Dung pitched a perfect game in Cal's 4-0 win over UTEP, recording the program's first flawless showing in the circle since 2010.
The Bears' hitting has improved since earlier in the season, with both Jazmyn Jackson and freshman Mikayla Coelho sparking the offense last week to pull in all-tournament nods.
Coelho has been particularly impressive as she leads the team with .411 batting average, 30 hits, five home runs and 21 RBIs.
Cal has fared well on the road delivering nine shutouts and five run-rules through its first four tournaments.
