Cal Heads To Utah For Three-Game Pac-12 Series
Coming Off 4-1 Homestand, Bears Look To Keep Rolling On The Road
Coming off of a 4-1 homestand, the Cal baseball team looks to keep its momentum going with a three-game Pac-12 series at Utah. The Bears picked up a 3-2 non-conference victory Monday over No. 25 BYU, a game that helped raise their RPI as high as 38th. They settled at No. 40 by Wednesday, with only four schools in the Pac-12 ranked ahead of them.
Cal and Utah begin their three-game set with a 5 p.m. (PT) game Friday, followed by a 3 p.m. contest Saturday and an 11 a.m. finale Sunday. All three games will be live streamed, and links for the live stream and live stats will be accessible through the baseball schedule page at CalBears.com this weekend. KALX radio will air the games on 90.7 FM, with the broadcast also available at  kalx.berkeley.edu/live-streaming and TuneIn Radio.
The Bears are 13-4 over their past 17 games, a stretch that includes a win over No. 1 UCLA and conference series wins over Washington State, Arizona and Oregon. Cal is in fifth place in the Pac-12 and will aim to capture its fourth conference series victory out of the past five. A key to the team's success has been the 1-2 punch of
Andrew Vaughn and
Korey Lee in the heart of the batting order. The juniors are tied for fifth in home runs in the Pac-12 at 11 apiece. Vaughn is third in hitting at .384 and Lee ranks fifth in RBI with 44.
On the mound, Saturday starter
Jared Horn has emerged as a staff ace with a 4-1 record and a 1.71 ERA that ranks second in the Pac-12.

SCOUTING THE UTES
Last meeting:Â Rain in Berkeley during last season's series forced the Bears and Utes to finish one game, and then play a doubleheader all on the same day. Cal walked away winning two of the three games.Â
Â
Utah 2018 Record:Â 16-39, 8-22 Pac-12
• The Utes enter the weekend at 12-25 overall (4-17 Pac-12) after being swept by No.1 UCLA last week.Â
• Utah is hitting .262 as a team entering this series. Junior Oliver Dunn continues to be a force, as the Salt Lake City native leads the Utes with a .354 batting average and 16 doubles. Senior Erick Migueles is the team's top run-producer with six home runs and 34 RBI.
• On the mound, Utah owns a 5.91 team ERA. Probable Saturday starter Josh Tedeschi leads the starting staff with five wins while Zac McCleve has established himself as Utah's go-to option out of the bullpen with 22 appearances to lead the club.
NEXT UP
Cal will head across the Bay for a 3 p.m. game Tuesday at USF.
