Biography

AS A JUNIOR (2019):
  • Versatile left-hander made impact as both a starter and reliever and earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors.
  • Led the Bears with 26 appearances (16 starts) and posted a 2-2 record and 2.81 ERA.
  • Allowed 44 hits, 21 runs (18 earned), 17 walks, four home runs and struck out 71 in 57 2/3 innings.
  • Held opponents to a .211 batting average, including .149 vs. lefties.
  • Ranked sixth in Pac-12 with 11.08 strikeouts per nine innings.
  • Made team-high 16 starts, used primarily as an "opener," and went 0-2 with a 3.30 ERA in that role.
  • Threw a season-high 6.0 innings in May 17 start vs. Arizona State, giving up two runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
  • Went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA over 10 relief appearances, striking out 21 and walking four in 14.0 innings.
  • Tied for the team lead with four saves.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2018):
  • Made a major impact out of the bullpen for the Bears in 2018, establishing himself as a dominant option from the left side for head coach Mike Neu.
  • Went 5-2 with a 3.07 ERA and one save in 20 appearances. Pitched 44 innings and struck out 48 hitters while walking only 11.
  • Worked five scoreless innings in a win over Brown on March 10, striking out four and allowing just two hits and one walk.
  • Picked up his first collegiate save on March 13 at San Francisco by tossing two scoreless innings to close out a 5-4 victory.
  • Showcased his versatility by pitching three innings or more five times.
  • Wins came against Cal St. Bakersfield, Brown, San Francisco, Arizona and Creighton.
  • Finished the year with a WHIP (walks plus hits divided by innings pitched) of 1.00.
AS A FRESHMAN (2017):
  • Tied for fourth on the team in appearances as a true freshman, pitching in 19 games (one start) with 22.2 innings pitched.
  • Finished the year with a 1-3 record and earned his first collegiate win against Washington State on April 2.
  • Had two strong outings on his first collegiate road trip, throwing a scoreless inning against Texas Tech on Feb. 24 and following that up the next day with 2.2 scoreless against the Red Raiders.
  • Made his first collegiate start against San Francisco on May 2 and tossed two scoreless innings.
  • Pitched a scoreless inning in his final outing of the year at Arizona on May 26.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL:
  • San Jose, Calif. native was a four-year varsity player at Branham High School in San Jose, Calif.
  • Went 10-4 with a 0.91 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 84.2 innings as a senior in 2016. Earned Rawlings/Perfect Game All-America honorable mention, California region honorable mention, second team All-SJ Mercury News and Team MVP in 2016.
  • Helped Branham win the Mt. Hamilton League in 2015 and went 15-1 with a 0.921 ERA and 126 strikeouts. Was named the 2015 Mt. Hamilton MVP, first team all-SJ Mercury News, MaxPreps Underclass All-American, MaxPreps first team All-State and Team MVP.
  • Helped Branham win the 2014 Central Coast Section Division II championship by going 8-2 with a 1.60 ERA and 80 strikeouts. Earned Mt. Hamilton sophomore of the year honors.
  • Spent the summer of 2016 giving pitching lessons and volunteering with special needs classes.
  • Counts hiking, photography, video games and hanging out with friends among his hobbies.
  • Earned a male scholar-athlete award and was a member of the honor roll at Branham.
