Bears Ready To Compete At World Rowing Cup III

ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands  -  Seven representatives from the Cal women's rowing program will be competing for medals this weekend as the World Rowing Cup III gets underway on Friday in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The third of three World Rowing Cup events this summer, the competition begins Friday with heats and concludes on Sunday with the finals. The full schedule of racing, as well as line-ups and watch information can be found at WorldRowing.com.

A 2019 graduate and CRCA First Team All-American, Sydney Payne will be racing for Canada in the four. Payne raced in the pair at the World Rowing Cup II earlier this summer in Poznan, Poland, finishing fourth overall.

Juliane Faralisch, the 2017 Pac-12 Rowing Newcomer of the Year and a Second Team All-American for the Bears in 2019, will also be competing in the women's four, racing for Germany. Faralisch helped Germany to an eighth-place finish in the four at the World Rowing Cup II and has previously raced on the international stage in the single sculls.

Charlotte Wesselmann, who collected Second Team All-America honors after stroking the Bears' varsity eight to an undefeated regular season and Pac-12 title, will be racing for Germany in the eight. Wesselmann competed in this event at the World Rowing Cup II, helping Germany win the B Final.

Rosie Popa and Jacinta Edmunds will also be racing together in the Australian eight. The Cal grad duo looks to repeat after capturing gold in the eight at the World Rowing Cup II in Poland. That grand final featured four Cal medalists as Dana Moffat won silver in the U.S. eight and Rowan McKellar took bronze with Great Britain.

McKellar will be back racing in the British eight this weekend, looking to add to her medal count. In addition to the bronze in Poland, McKellar helped Great Britain win silver in the eight at the 2019 European Rowing Championships.

Inger Kavlie rounds out the Cal contingent and will be racing for Norway in the double sculls.
