QUICK HITS
- Under Mike Neu, Cal has gone 8-7 against Arizona, having lost back-to-back series in 2021 and 2022.
- Friday, the Bears will send Andres Galan to the mound. Galan made his first career start against Villanova and needed just eight pitches to get through a scoreless top of the first.
- Overall, the Bears' pitching staff has been tremendous. Through 11 games, Cal owns a 3.60 staff ERA, which ranks 33rd in the nation. Cal's starting pitchers boast an ERA of 1.35. In 40 innings pitched, the starters have allowed just 25 hits and six earned runs.
- Against Villanova on Tuesday, the Bears stole seven bases, a team-high in the Mike Neu era. The record for stolen bases in a game is 14 by the Bears against UC Davis on April 18, 1986. Rodney Green Jr. swiped three bags against the Wildcats to give him six on the year, which is second most in the Pac-12 and 73rd in the nation.
- Through 11 contests, the Bears have scored 72 runs. The Bears have scored 52 of their runs in three innings, the first (13 runs), fifth (24), and sixth (14).
- Formidable 1-2 punch: Caleb Lomavita and Green Jr. have hit in the top two spots in the order in every game this season. The duo has combined to hit .341 with 31 hits, five doubles, seven home runs, and 18 RBI.
- Reaching safely: The trio of Lomavita, Green Jr., and Kade Kretzschmar have reached base safely in all 11 games this season.
- Cal's bullpen has been stellar at stranding runners this season. Through 11 games, relief pitchers have inherited 16 runners and have only allowed one to score. Daniel Colwell has been the stopper for the Bears in 2023; he has inherited six runners this season and none have scored.
SERIES HISTORY
- Friday marks the 198th time the Wildcats and Golden Bears have squared off. The series dates back to 1951 with Arizona holding a 113-84 advantage. Last year, Arizona won two of three at Stu Gordon Stadium after falling in the opener.
