Anzaldo Blasts Bears To Series Win

Cal Takes Series In Tucson For First Time Since 2013

TUCSON, Ariz. – Tatum Anzaldo hit two home runs and the California softball team held on to an early six-run lead for an 8-6 victory over Arizona to clinch the series on Saturday night at Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium.

The Golden Bears (33-17-1, 9-13-1 Pac-12) took the series in Tucson for the first time since 2013 with Anzaldo going 3-for-3 and Makena Smith blasting her 14th home run of the season. Blaise Biringer had a three-hit day for the WIldcats (27-24, 5-18 Pac-12).

Cal got on the scoreboard on just the second pitch of the game when Anzaldo blasted a leadoff homer, and made it 3-0 in the second frame when the Whittier, California native came back around and hit a 2-run shot, her fourth of the year.

The Bears scored three more runs in the fourth on an Acacia Anders bases-loaded hit by pitch and two straight walks with the bases full from Smith and Elon Butler, making it 6-0 before Arizona finally scored in the home half.

Leading 6-3 heading to the sixth, Cal got some insurance on an Anders RBI sacrifice bunt before Smith crushed a solo shot off the batter's eye in center field. Sona Halajian started in the circle for the Bears and battled throughout the night, turning in a complete-game effort to earn her fourth win of the season.
