McEligot Scores Winner At CBU, Bears Fall At USF
Rohan McEligot scored the game-winning goal as the Cal men's soccer team held on for a 2-1 result at California Baptist on Sept. 7 in Riverside.
Â
The Bears had fallen behind in the 25th minute, when Leo Mendez scored from a difficult angle to give CBU a 1-0 lead. But Cal didn't have to wait long for the equalizer, as, in the 30th minute, a CBU defensive miscue led to an own goal that made the score 1-1. In the 78th minute, Cal's
Nonso Adimabua won a ball in midfield and then a deft touch by
Adrian Guzman sprung McEligot, who ran free through the Lancers' defense to slot the ball past goalkeeper Dorian Drucks for the eventual winner.
Â
On Sept. 10 in San Francisco, Cal allowed two first-half goals – the winner by the Dons' T.J. Knight and another by Gabriel Bracken Serra – and a second-half penalty kick by Bracken Serra in its first loss of 2023.
