Jazlynn Shearer was the first of four Cal athletes to record a program top-10 time on Saturday.
SACRAMENTO – California track & field closed out its second outdoor meet of the season on Saturday with decisive team victories over its competition, as the men finished with 201.33 points (123.33 above second place) and the women with 169.50 (74.50 over second place) at the Hornet Invitational.
The men's sprinters fared well once again on the second day of the meet, with junior
David Foster improving his 100m PR to a winning 10.24 and bettering his own program No. 2 entry while senior
Chase Williams made his debut on Cal's top-10 list with a third-place 10.38, good for fifth fastest in program history. Williams, along with senior
George Monroe, senior
Mason Mangum and junior
Christian Trapps, also took second place in the 4x100m relay with a combined 39.98. Junior
Isaiah Shaw earned another top-three finish in the 400m with his second-place time of 47.15; meanwhile, freshman
Donovan Bradley continued his standout rookie campaign by placing second in the 110m hurdles (13.87). Cal's male distance runners also picked up two more event wins on Saturday, with junior
Iyan Godwin running a personal-best 1:49.99 in the 800m and sophomore
Caden Carney picking up his second title of the weekend with a time of 3:49.46 in the 1500m.
In the men's field events, the Bears took home four event wins and eight total top-three placings. Junior
Riley Knott crushed his outdoor high jump PR with a winning leap of 2.10m (6-10.75), while freshman teammate
Victor Ezike Jr. took second with a mark of 2.01m (6-7) in his collegiate debut. Mangum matched his success on the track with a resounding victory in the long jump, posting an enormous wind-aided PR of 7.86m (25-9.5); sophomore
Jason Plumb took second with his own PR of nearly two feet, recording a best leap of 7.67m (25-2). Senior
Jeff Duensing added yet another shot put crown to his season with a winning throw of 18.18m (59-7.75), taking the title via tiebreaker with redshirt freshman
Nick Godbehere and his matching personal-best mark. Godbehere later claimed a win of his own in the discus, whirling the platter 50.81m (166-8), while junior
Charlie Dang improved his javelin career high with a third-place effort of 60.90m (199-10).
Both the women's runners and field athletes also posted a slew of top finishes, including two top-10 program times of their own. Junior
Makhaila Mills made her debut on Cal's all-time list with a winning 100m time of 11.60, just .003 seconds faster than classmate
Aysha Shaheed's second-place finish and eighth best in program history. Senior
Jazlynn Shearer took second place in the 100m hurdles behind classmate
Jada Hicks (13.35); her time of 13.48 was her best as a member of the Blue & Gold and bettered her own program No. 5 mark. Meanwhile, senior
Ryan Lacefield's star continued to rise as she won the 400m in a personal-best 54.26, while classmate
Claire Yerby took third in the 800m race with a time of 2:10.76.
Freshman

Jasmine Blair competed for the first time in two years to win the discus contest at 54.98m (180-4), while sophomore
Carolina Visca topped the javelin field at 49.07m (161-0).
