TULSA, Okla. – With berths in the doubles semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships and in the NCAA Doubles Championship at stake, the California men's tennis pair of Alex Chang and Mikey Wright competed in a tight quarterfinal match Friday at ITA All-Americans at Case Tennis Center. But the Golden Bears, ranked 13th in the nation, lost to Baylor's 26th-ranked Devin Badenhorst and Zsombor Velcz 7-6(2), 7-6(3).
 
In the consolation singles round of 32, Theo Dean was originally slated to play Cal teammate Carl Emil Overbeck, but the senior had a walkover after Overbeck withdrew with an injury. Dean then played Virginia's Dylan Dietrich and beat the 20th-ranked Cavalier 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 in round of 16 qualifying. Next up, Dean will play North Carolina State's 33rd-ranked Braden Shick in the round of 16 on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. PT.
 
DAVIS, Calif. – A small Cal group - including sophomores Alex Aney and Jonathan Irwanto and freshman Bernardo Munk Mesa – opened the Aggie Invitational on Friday at UC Davis, with the Bears posting three victories.
 
One of those results was Munk Mesa's first college win, as he partnered with Irwanto to beat Pacific's Terence Das and Vraj Patel 8-6 in doubles.
 
The Aggie Invite ends on Sunday.
