Biography
2023-24: Named to the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor roll roll and for the second straight season chosen as an ITA Scholar-Athlete…posted records of 19-11 in doubles and 3-9 in singles…finished the season ranked 75th in doubles with Alex Chang; the two Berkeley natives compiled a 7-2 record…Wright and Chang clinched the doubles point in the 4-1 Pac-12 opening win over No. 52 Oregon and then clinched doubles the next day in Cal’s 4-1 victory over No. 74 Washington.
2022-23: Selected as an ITA Scholar-Athlete…posted records of 6-3 in doubles and 2-6 in singles.
2021-22: Compiled records of 7-6 in doubles and 1-7 in singles in his first year as a Golden Bear…won the first three doubles matches of his college career, going 3-0 in Harvard’s Chowderfest in September, winning twice when paired with Philip Hjorth and once with Carl Emil Overbeck…the first doubles win came when Wright and Hjorth defeated Florida’s Andy Andrade and Lukas Greif, 6-3…Wright claimed his first singles victory when he beat Hawaii’s Cody Castro, 6-2, 6-1, on Jan. 6 in Honolulu.
Personal/Previous: Legal studies major…son of Cal’s former Director of Men's Tennis and Cal alumnus Peter Wright, a former professional player, Irish Davis Cup captain, Ireland Olympic head coach and three-time Pac-12 coach of the Year, and Fionnuala Wright, a former Irish national tennis champion…his older brother, Thomas, is also a Cal men’s tennis alum, and his older sister, Carly, competed on the Cal women’s rowing team.
