Cal To Make Final Preparations For First ACC Series

The California baseball team will make its final preparations for ACC play with a four-game series against Santa Clara starting Friday at Stu Gordon Stadium. The Golden Bears will host the first two games of the series to wrap a historic season-opening 10-game homestand before playing the final two contests at Santa Clara on Sunday and Monday, which begin a stretch of 14 of 18 games on the road.

STARTING NINE

FINAL ACC PREP - The four games with Santa Clara are Cal's final contests before beginning ACC play with a three-game series March 7-9 at Duke.
WALK OFF WIN - Cole Tremain was the unquestionable hero of Cal's first walk-off and comeback win of the season in a 6-5 victory over Cal State Bakersfield in 11 innings on Wednesday. Tremain plated Cade Campbell with the game-winning run on his one-out RBI single in the bottom of the 11th. He also made his start of the season, homered in his first Cal at bat, was the game's winning pitcher and threw a runner out at the plate in the top of the eighth after a Cal error.
OTHER RECENT FIRSTS - Tremain wasn't the only Cal player with firsts in the win over Cal State Bakersfield. Alex Birge also launched his first collegiate home run, while Lucas Alaniz made his first appearance at Cal and Cade Campbell posted his first career three-hit game.
HISTORIC HOMESTAND - Cal's current 10-game season-opening homestand – its longest since playing 11 in a row in Berkeley from Feb. 20-March 8, 2015, and longest to open a season in the program's recorded history – will end after the second game of the Santa Clara series. After the homestand, Cal plays 14 of its next 18 games on road.
PITCHING NUMBERS STRONG - Cal is third in the ACC and among top teams nationally in both hits allowed per nine innings (5.84, #12T NCAA) and WHIP (1.14, #28 NCAA). Individually, Gavin Eddy is fifth and tied for 20th nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (2.0).
FAN CLUB - Cal's pitchers have 85 strikeouts in their first 74.0 innings of work (10.3 per nine inning) including a season-high 15 in the Feb. 14 opener against Nevada and double digits in six of eight contests.
FIRST SEASON IN THE ACC - Cal has visits from three 2024 College World Series teams (Florida State, NC State, Virginia) and plays three-game series against five teams currently in the top 20 (Clemson, Duke, Florida State, NC State, Virginia) in its first season in the ACC. The Bears open ACC play March 7 at Duke and play their first ACC home game March 14 against Virginia.
