Biography

Spring 2020: Had a No. 59 singles ranking in the Oracle ITA March 3 poll and posted a 7-5 singles record in his junior season…also went 6-5 in doubles in 2019-20…paired with Yuta Kikuchi to post a 3-2 doubles record, with the duo winning its last three official matches…Molloy and Kikuchi clinched the doubles point in Cal’s 4-0 win over Sacramento State, beating Louis Chabut and Hermont Legaspi, 6-1, on court one and secured the doubles point in Cal’s 7-0 rout of Nevada with a 6-3 victory over Daniel Dudockin and Benjamin Campi…Molloy and Kikuchi also went 3-1 in the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship to reach the round of 16.

Fall 2019: Ranked 49th in the last Oracle ITA singles poll of the fall…compiled a singles record of 5-1 and a doubles record of 3-3…Molloy won twice in singles – including a 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-2, result over Michigan’s 78th-ranked Andrew Fenty – at the Audi Napa Valley Tennis Classic…he won three times, including a 6-2, 6-3 victory over USC’s 84th-ranked Jake Sands, to reach the singles quarterfinals at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic…his only singles blemish in Milwaukee was a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 setback to Notre Dame’s fifth-ranked Richard Ciamarra in the quarters…also paired with Bjorn Hoffmann to go 2-1 in doubles in a run to the doubles quarters in the MTC.

Spring 2019: Completed his sophomore season with a 14-14 singles record and 15-11 doubles record…in the NCAA team tournament, Molloy and Ben Draper defeated Calum Macgeoch and Ben Clark, 6-3, in doubles in Cal’s 4-1 win over Drake in the round of 64 and the next day topped Keenan May and Fletcher Scott, 7-6(3), in the Bears’ 4-1 upset of No. 15 Illinois in the round of 32…Molloy and Draper posted a 7-5 doubles record…in singles, Molloy beat Alejandro Reguant, 7-6, 7-6, to clinch the Bears’ 4-2 upset of No. 21 Arizona in their Pac-12 opener and he defeated Riley Smith, 7-6(3), 6-7(6), 6-3, to clinch Cal’s 4-3, comeback, upset win over No. 5 USC…he also teamed with Mert Zincirli to win in doubles in those wins over Arizona and USC…Molloy and Zincirli posted a 7-6 doubles record.
 
Fall 2018: Was 4-3 in singles and 2-3 in doubles in the fall…he advanced to the singles round of 16 in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and paired with Draper to reach the doubles round of 16 at regionals.

Spring 2018: Compiled an 18-11 singles record that included a 10-5 record in dual matches and a 10-4 record on court three…was 9-15 in doubles…Molloy led the team by clinching five Cal victories – the 4-2 win at Tulsa on Jan. 14, the 4-3 victory over Oregon on Jan. 28, the 4-0 blanking of San Diego State on March 1, the 4-3 win over Arizona State on March 18 in the final of the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge, and the April 8, 4-0 win over Utah…Molloy knocked off the Sun Devils’ Tim Ruehl, 6-4, 6-4, in Cal’s championship win in Indian Wells…partnered with Ben Draper to reach the round of 16 at the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship…Molloy and Draper were 6-9 in doubles.

Fall 2017: Compiled records of 8-6 in singles and 2-5 in doubles…won five times to reach the singles final at the ITA Northwest Regional Championship but fell to Portland’s 18th-ranked Michail Pervolarakis, 6-1, 7-6(5)…also competed in singles at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships and Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships…beat USC’s Thibault Forget, 7-5, 6-3, for his first collegiate singles win in the Audi Napa Valley Tennis Classic…posted a 2-1 doubles record with Jacob Brumm en route to the round of 16 at regionals.

Personal: Economics major…has a career-high ITF ranking of 80…competed in singles and doubles in the 2017 Junior Championships at Wimbledon and in the 2017 Australian Open Junior Championships…has represented Great Britain in the under-14 and 16 age groups…attended Reed’s School with future Cal teammate Ben Draper…Reed’s School also produced former England star Tim Henman…the pair of Molloy and Draper has won three ITF doubles titles and competed together in the main draw of doubles in the 2016 Junior Championships at Wimbledon, in which Molloy also played in qualifying singles.
