Biography
Spring 2020: Made a strong debut as a Golden Bear, going 12-8 in singles (including 3-1 in dual matches) and 6-3 in doubles…won his last three singles matches, including a 6-4, 6-4 result over UCLA’s Ben Goldberg, a 7-5, 6-1 win over Sacramento State’s Josh Snowdon-Pole, and a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Nevada’s Daniel Dudockin…paired with Thomas Wright to reach the round of 16 of the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship, in which the two Bears posted a 3-1 record.
Fall 2019: Went 9-7 in singles and 6-3 in doubles in his first semester as a Golden Bear…won five singles matches in pre-qualifying/qualifying at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships…Hunter won four matches, including beating Stanford’s Timothy Sah, 6-3, 6-3, in the round of 16, in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships to advance to the singles quarterfinals…with Jacob Brumm, Hunter compiled a 5-2 doubles record, with the duo winning three times, including an 8-6 triumph over Gonzaga’s Brandon Park/Vincent Rettke in the round of 16, to reach the regional quarterfinals...also paired with Yuta Kikuchi to split two doubles matches in the Battle in the Bay Classic.
Previous/Personal: Undeclared major…joined Cal from Cerritos College, where he was a 2018 ITA Junior College All-American in singles and doubles…at Cerritos in 2017-18, Hunter posted a 28-1 singles record and – with Victor Castro – a 24-1 doubles record…Hunter won the singles crown and he and Castro earned the doubles title at the Western State East Division Conference Championships...Hunter led Cerritos College to the 2018 CCCAA Dual Team State Championship… Hunter captured the boys' 18 singles and doubles titles at the 2018 ATA National Championships in Orlando, Florida…more recently, he won the men’s open singles title in the 2019 Irvine Open in February...parents are Karen and Kurt Hunter.
