BERKELEY - Sophomore Adrienne Gehan absolutely jumpstarted the Cal offense en route to three wins - sweeping all nine sets - at the Holiday Inn Jefferson Cup over the weekend in Charlottesville, Va, making her this week's California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week.
Gehan posted a team-high 38 kills and 40.5 points to earn tournament MVP honors. She averaged 4.50 points per set and hit an incredible .385 (38k, 8e, 78att) and made 13 kills across nine sets of play.
To open the weekend against Long Island, Gehan tallied nine kills and four digs in the 3-0 win.
Friday evening's match against UVa was the most arduous competition for the top-ranked Bears, but the Cavaliers were no match for Gehan. In that match, she had a weekend-high and team-best 15 kills (2e, 29att) to hit an incredible .448 and tallied three digs.
In Saturday's match against ECU, Gehan stepped right in, again leading the Bears in kills - this time with 14 all the while tallying six digs.
Gehan now has a team-high 63 kills this season (13e, 140att, .357) to average 3.40 kills per set.
