The No. 2-ranked California men's water polo team (13-1) won its third match of the Air Force Open, defeating No. 17-ranked Air Force, 18-4, Sunday at the Air Force Water Polo Pool in Colorado Springs. Senior All-American John Mann paced the Golden Bears with four goals, and sophomore goalie Marc Vacquier had a career-high 14 saves.
Cal finished the Air Force Open with a 3-0 mark, winning 10-4 over Air Force, and a 19-9 over No. 8 UC Davis, on Saturday. The Bears are now 13-1 on the season.
Brian Kinsel, Michael Sharf, Frank Reynolds, Marty Matthies and Jeff Tyrrell added two goals apiece in Sunday's victory over Air Force. Brian Bacharach, Kevin Platshon, Spencer Warden and Andrija Vasiljevic also notched goals against the Falcons. Warden added a team-high three steals, and Vasiljevic and junior Zac Monsees had five and four assists, respectively.
The Bears will next host Cal Baptist on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex. Cal then hosts Stanford in the Big Splash, Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
