No. 4 Cal Defeats No. 13 Pacific, 14-6, and No. 5 LMU, 9-8, at UCI Invitational

IRVINE, CALIF. - Junior Zach White scored what proved to be the match-winning goal with 1:15 left in the third quarter as fourth ranked California (10-3) held off No. 5 Loyola Marymount (11-3), 9-8, Saturday, Oct. 10 during the first day of the UCI Invitational at Anteater Pool.
White, who led the Golden Bears with four goals, gave Cal a 9-7 lead that was cut to 9-8 on a score by LMU`s Edgaras Asajavicius with 6:29 left in the match. The Bears, however, held off two extra-man opportunities by the Lions in the final quarter to seal the win.
Sophomore Ivan Rackov added three goals for Cal, and sophomore Luka Saponjic and senior captain Mike Sample also tallied scores for the Bears. Cal will now face No. 1-Stanford on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 10:40 a.m. in the UCI Invitational semifinal
In a morning match against Pacific, Saponjic`s three goals led a balanced Bear scoring attack as Cal topped the Tigers, 14-6. Cal scored six straight goals in the second half to break away from an 8-4 lead.
Other top scorers for the Bears against UOP were senior captain Spencer Warden, Rackov and redshirt freshman Mason Cox with two goals apiece. Freshman Justin Parsons notched eight saves manning the goal. Junior Brian Dudley, sophomores Cory Nasoff, Zach Greenwood and Charlie Steffens, and redshirt freshman Spencer White also tallied goals for Cal.
