Bears Have Hit The Second-Most Homers In The Pac-12
The Bears have won two in a row as they hit the road for a weekend series at No. 7 Oregon State that begins Friday night. Highlighting those victories has been a power surge that's produced eight home runs over the past two games. That's pushed Cal's season total to 24, the second-most in the Pac-12 behind Arizona State's 32. In Tuesday's 10-7 win over USF, Cameron Eden, Cole Elvis, Andrew Vaughn and Sam Wezniak all went deep to pace Cal's 12-hit attack.
The Bears opened conference play by going 1-2 at home last weekend against USC. They open this series against the Beavers with a 7:05 p.m. game Friday, followed by a 5:35 p.m. matchup Saturday and a 2:05 p.m. series finale Sunday. The Pac-12 Network will televise the action Friday and Sunday.
Vaughn, the 2018 Golden Spikes Award winner, is off to another terrific start this season. He enters the weekend hitting .426 with eight home runs and 23 RBI, which all rank in the top four in the conference in their respective categories. Eden, a junior left fielder who moved into the leadoff spot early in non-conference play, has heated up at the plate recently. He's hitting .296 and ranks second on the team behind Vaughn with four homers and 12 RBI.
The pitching staff is led by junior lefty Arman Sabouri, who has bounced between an "opener" role and a versatile relief option. He's posted a 1.83 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings.
